ABOUT CRAWFORD

Chip Crawford (1960 – ) was born in Tucson, Arizona.  He graduated from Sahuaro High School, studied advertising and graphic design at Pima Community College, then moved to Pasadena California, where he graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and later attended Pasadena City College, where he studied writing, filmmaking, photography and commercial art.  During his time in California, he acted, bartended, worked at the historic Valley Hunt Club, managed at several Alpha Beta grocery stores, and survived several earthquakes, mudslides, hillside fires, malathion spraying, and the Rodney King riots.  It was while he lived in Pasadena that Mr. Crawford started the Dry Ice Graphics workshop, producing comic strips, card designs, magazines, the Dry Ice Radio Theatre, scores of cassette tapes of recorded music, several short stories, and countless illustrations, advertisements, and marketing material.  Southern California presented many opportunities to rub shoulders and meet celebrities (such as Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro, Martin Sheen, Dudley Moore, Sydney Pollack, Jonathon Winters, Cary Grant, Bea Arthur, Danny DeVito, Marilu Henner, Bill Nelson), and he was even invited backstage at the Hollywood Bowl to party with his idols, the cast of Monty Python’s Flying Circus.  But big city life began to takes its toll, and Mr. Crawford eventually returned to Arizona, where he currently resides in Mesa, alongside his four children (Christopher, Megan, Cory and Dylan), and six grandchildren (Jude, Christopher, Oliver, Peter, Beckham, Lilith, and Vivienne), and works as a policy writer and senior business analyst for the State of Arizona Department of Economic Security.  (Mr. Crawford recently lost his wife, Terri.)  Since his return, Mr. Crawford has produced several books (“Now Playing,” “Alone and Insane,” “Survivor Seasons“) and published a monthly comic strip (“Neely’s Diner“) in a Phoenix valley entertainment newspaper called “Take 5.”  In his spare time, he nurses and dusts his huge collection of books on media, pop culture and advertising, his huge collection of vinyl albums and 45s, and his huge collection of toys and advertising memorabilia.  He is known to end each and every day with a glass of ice cold, frosty (lactose-free) chocolate milk.
