2024 was a difficult year for our family. It was the first year without my wife and my mother, which in turn made it the first year for my children without their mom and grandma, and the first year for my grandkids without their grandmother and great-grandmother. My wife, Terri, loved Disneyland – her favorite ride (when she wasn’t holding babies or pushing strollers) was “Peter Pan’s Flight.” Terri’s last trip to the park was in April, 2023, for “Disneyland After Dark Throwback Nite,” in which she enjoyed the Happiest Place on Earth come full circle, herself being pushed around in a wheelchair.
After her passing, on a lark, we decided to purchase Magic Keys, which enabled us to visit Disneyland throughout the year anytime we wished. Which we did. This wasn’t an experiment to see what it would be like to go from occasional, somewhat annual “special” trips to Disneyland to multiple, almost every weekend trips to the resort, but it WAS an experience, and one we will never forget. Instead of looking back on 2024 with sadness as the first year with two strong and influential women no longer a part of our lives, we can choose to happily remember it as the Magical Year of Disney.

The following photographs chronicle this amazing time with my amazing family, including memorable moments on Mother’s Day, one or two bucket list dreams come true, old people tipping over backward on their electric scooter, stays at the Disneyland Hotel, food festivals and parades, and the thrill of sharing the excitement of kids who have grown tall enough to ride attractions for their very first time.
On Mother’s Day, we all wore a pair of Terri’s socks – Terri loved and collected socks! – and placed flowers on the “Peter Pan’s Flight” attraction, with the gracious assistance from the ride’s cast members.

We also were lucky enough to secure some coveted Club 33 merchandise through the help of my dear friend Lisa’s nephew, Scott Carson, who I had last seen when we all visited Disneyland back in 1977!
